Why does the government have power over me?

Aren't we born free. At what point do we give up that freedom? Why does the government have power over me? I was born here, I cant help that but when did I make an agreement to be ruled by a Government. How can I not be governed and truly be free by Definition. (Government by consent of the governed. The government derives its power to govern through the consent of the people it governs) Im not expecting a definite answer as much as I am looking for Ideas
