Need help regarding legal responsibilities governing contracts?

I am currently working on an assignment for college and there is a question that says "Provide an accurate description of the legal responsibilities governing contracts." and I don't quite understand what it is asking me for. I am a little bit thick in head and have never really been good with business and legal issues. Anyway if you could help me out with this that would be awesome.
